The Channel Zero Hour Epi. 54: 1984!

This episode, designed to be a useful primer for our dystopian times, features 1984 (1956), starring Edmond O'Brien, Michael Redgrave and Donald Pleasence in a winning adaptation of George Orwell's dystopian novel NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR, Orwell's chilling vision of his near future (and our present!). It's backed up by the testimony of two further features:

DESPOTISM (1965), an Encyclopedia Brittanica production in collaboration with Yale University on how to recognize where one's society falls on the scales of democracy and despotism, of respect and power, and:

GREAT AUTHORS: ORWELL (1987), a dramatic reading of passages from Orwell's SUCH, SUCH WERE THE JOYS about his experiences at St Cyprian's School (renamed Crossgates in the essay) of being cast out, mistreated, misunderstood and bullied for possessing exactly the personal attributes that made him a great and good person.
